Alabama to get coach, lineman back for Texas A&M

Alabama is expected to have a few key parts of its defense back in time for Saturday’s home opener with Texas A&M.

Defensive backs coach Charles Kelly was back at work Wednesday, Nick Saban said after practice, after missing Saturday’s game at Missouri.

“So he’s fine,” Saban said.

The second-year defensive backs coach was replaced in Missouri by analyst Mike Stoops, the former Arizona head coach. Saban wish Kelly and his family “good luck in getting well” after the 38-19 win in Columbia.

And on the defensive front, Christian Barmore has practiced all week after missing the Missouri win with knee injury Saban previously described as minor.

“We’re hopeful he’ll be able to contribute in the game as well,” Saban said Wednesday evening.

The third-year sophomore had been part of the rotation on the defensive line after seeing success last year in pass-rush situations. Six of his 26 tackles were behind the line of scrimmage including two sacks and five additional quarterback pressures.
