Deshaun Watson would consider Dolphins trade as Texans mess grows

The Houston Texans and franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson could be headed for a messy divorce.

Following a week filled with trade buzz and speculation about Watson’s overall feelings with the Texans, reports regarding Watson’s “unhappiness” with the organization “are accurate,” according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. And although Watson has a no-trade clause, he has at least one destination in mind.

“Sources say Watson could play hardball with Texans about a trade. His new $156 million contract includes a no-trade clause but informed speculation from a source is that he would consider the @MiamiDolphins in which Tua Tagovailoa and additional compensation goes to Houston,” Mortensen said.

Tagovailoa was drafted fifth overall to Miami in 2020. The Dolphins own the Texans’ first-round pick, No. 3 overall, as a result of the Laremy Tunsil trade from 2019.

Watson, 25, is also “still angry” about the team’s hiring practices after the team did not interview Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy for its head-coaching vacancy, according to the report.

Mortensen also initially reported some of Watson’s anger was because of “insensitivity to social justice,” but he later tweeted that “Watson’s unhappiness with Texans is not strongly connected to social justice issues, a source close to the quarterback clarifies, even though those issues are important.”

Earlier this week, Watson — who inked a four-year, $156 million contract extension in September — tweeted and deleted the message, “Some things never change…..”

The Houston Chronicle later speculated two potential possibilities regarding the tweet’s actual meaning: the Texans hiring Nick Caserio as their new GM, and Tuesday’s decision that the Wisconsin cop who shot Jacob Blake will not face criminal charges.

Watson was pegged to be part of the Texans’ hiring process, as team owner Cal McNair informed the quarterback he could provide feedback as the organization searched for its next GM and coach, according to NFL Network. It’s alleged that wasn’t the case in regards to Caserio’s hiring, per the report.

On Sunday, ESPN also reported the Texans ignored the search firm Korn Ferry in their GM hunt. Omar Khan, the vice president of football and business administration for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was said to be in the mix for the gig, in addition to “Monday Night Football” analyst Louis Riddick.

As for Watson, he enjoying some R&R with girlfriend Jilly Anais, who celebrated her 25h birthday earlier this month.

“Havin’ what we havin’,” he posted Friday to Instagram.
