Man dies after being shot in Salt Lake City early Saturday morning

A man died after being shot in Salt Lake City early Saturday morning, according to police.

Sgt. Keith Horrocks said officers were called to 1100 W. and California Ave. around 2 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. Police found a man lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his wounds.

Horrocks said detectives are working on the case. He said they are looking for cameras in the area because some witnesses reported seeing a white or silver car in the area around the time of the shooting.

The department is trying to get guns away from people with prior felony convictions, said Horrocks. He said they might seek federal charges if the suspect in the case turns out to have a felony conviction.
