Mets are are running through their local brick walls. Steve Cohen, Sandy Alderson and Jared Porter made a monster statement on Thursday afternoon, acquiring Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco from the Indians. The Mets didn’t fleece Cleveland, but they clearly got the better end of this trade. They went out and got a franchise shortstop and a legit No. 2 starting pitcher. The hype around this fan base is through the roof…and it very well should be. This was the biggest trade for this franchise since getting Mike Piazza in 1998.

To break the trade down and what the Mets might do next, we bring you an emergency edition of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me, including interviews with Mets radio voice Howie Rose and former Mets GM Jim Duquette.

Amazin’ But True Opening Segment with Jake & Figgie:

  • Excitement after hearing the trade amongst the fans. Tickets, jersey sales, lineup gets better, pitching better, defense better.
  • Lindor has consistently been an elite player in his career. This deal was a no brainer for the Mets. Key will be locking him in for the long run.
  • Getting Carrasco is an underrated aspect of this deal. He is a No. 2 starter for any team and probably is No. 3 or 4 for the Mets. This rotation can be scary good with the addition of one more starter.
  • What’s next? George Springer would be ideal, but have to look at other options too. Jackie Bradley Jr.? What starting pitcher? What reliever?
  • Need to be at Citi Field this season. There are moves still to be done, but this could be a championship caliber team.

  • They make this deal thinking they have every opportunity to sign Lindor long-term. Going to be momentum to get a deal done.
  • This is not a finished product yet. Knowing if there will be a DH or not will be key in what they do with the lineup.
  • Mets Twitter buzzing. Hard to not celebrate such a big move for the franchise.
  • Mets become better up the middle with Lindor at shortstop and Jeff McNeil at his natural position at second base. Carrasco has good numbers, could use another pitcher in rotation.

Jim Duquette Interview:
Former Mets GM, SNY analyst, MLB Network Radio analyst

  • Reaction to trade, having same element as the Mike Piazza trade. Deal makes sense for the Indians getting two young infielders.
  • Lindor is one of top five players in the sport. Carrasco gives them the chance to now have a dominant rotation. Like Seth Lugo in bullpen better.
  • Is this the biggest trade since they got Piazza? Taking us inside the Piazza trade when Jim was leading the farm system in 1998.
  • What kind of money will Lindor get? Do Mets do it before the season?
